The organisation was founded by two young melanoma patients, Daniel Belcher and the late Brent Grace. Melanoma Patients Australia was officially launched on 6 July 2006 by the former Governor of Queensland, The Honourable Dame Quentin Bryce, now former Governor-General of Australia.
Melanoma Patients Australia recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of Australia, and we acknowledge, respect and embrace their continued connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders past, present and emerging.
